EC Celebrates 17 Years of Art Collecting!

Aloha! Another successful year has passed at Exclusive Collections Galleries since owners James and Ruth-Ann Thorn began their adventure in the art business about 25 years ago in Hawaii. With ECG’s roots in the Aloha of the islands, we wanted to share that welcoming spirit with faithful collectors and friends at our 17th Anniversary Show! The festivities took place on the weekend of July 27-29 which included grass skirts, Hawaiian punch, live painting, music and entertainment. Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion and mercy. The word itself is said to bring about a positive attitude when repeated, and can help protect and guide one’s life journey by transforming negative thoughts to those of kindness and compassion. Each EC Gallery location had a special artist come to the 17th Anniversary Show and share in the Aloha theme that has influenced the gallery environment that continues to thrive today.

Memories of Home

Walfrido Garcia traveled all the way from the Hawaiian Islands to appropriately be the featured artist for our Historic Gaslamp and Seaport Village galleries. At the show he unveiled his latest collection of work which focuses on the fundamentals of light using black and white with eye-catching color accents.

Of course, as a master painter of light, Walfrido included a few vibrant pieces more true to his usual style. For example, Diamond Head Sunrise and Endless Summer encompass both his expertise in depicting light and his love of painting on surfaces besides canvas. Many of his masterpieces are painted on Koa wood, which is endemic to Hawaii. The crowd was awed by Walfrido’s latest work as well as his skillful impromptu painting, especially on the unconventional surfaces of a miniature model of a hawaiian surfboard and a ukulele. Live drumming and traditional ukulele followed while Healiis Polynesian Revue performed both traditional Hawaiian and Tahitian dances.

That same weekend Gloria Lee painted her floral works in front of an audience gathered at EC Laguna Beach Gallery, creatively inspired by the influence of flowers in Hawaiian culture. Artist Nan Coffey visited EC Forum Shops Gallery in Las Vegas to bring her illustrative, animated and playful acrylic paintings to the eager audience.

If you weren’t able to celebrate with us this year, be sure to come next year to our 18th Anniversary Show and don’t forget to wear your Hawaiian shirt!
